Finland’s leading car magazine, Auto Bild Suomi, has been selected as the main media sponsor of the Finnish Cancer Foundation’s Pocket Pool campaign. The first initiative of its type to be organised, the campaign will encourage young men to take a more proactive approach to their health and raise money for research into male cancer.
Men between 18 and 35 will be the main focus of the campaign, which is aimed at helping men recognise the first signs of testicular cancer – the most common type of cancer affecting this age group – and encouraging them to contact their doctor if they discover any potential symptoms. Promoting a healthy lifestyle as a means of reducing the risk of people contracting cancer will also be a key goal.
The Finnish Cancer Foundation’s Pocket Pool campaign was launched on 12 August and will include a special Pocket Pool Day, to be held on 9 September. Auto Bild Suomi has been selected as the campaign’s main media sponsor, and two of Sanoma Magazines Finland’s other titles, GTi-Magazine and Pelit, will also devote space to campaign material. The agreement will enable campaign advertising to reach some 362,000 men* through all three publications.
Auto Bild Suomi will also take part in the campaign’s fundraising activities to raise money for research into testicular cancer and promote work aimed at helping prevent cancer among the male population. Thirty cents from the sale of each newsstand copy of the magazine during the campaign will be donated to the Finnish Cancer Foundation. Five euros from each five-month subscription made through the campaign’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/taskubiljardipaiva) will also be donated, and 10 euros from each 10-month subscription.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to be at the forefront of backing this important campaign being mounted by the Finnish Cancer Foundation,” says Auto Bild Suomi’s Editor-in-Chief, Jarmo Markkanen. “We believe that the magazine and its Web site will offer an excellent channel for the campaign, which is intentionally designed to be slightly humorous; and we hope to get our advertisers and readers actively involved in promoting the campaign’s message.”
Sanoma Magazine Finland’s women’s weekly, Me Naiset, has been one of the main media sponsors of the Finnish Cancer Foundation’s Pink Ribbon campaigns for over a decade.
