Me Naiset

A Good-humoured Take on Everyday Life

Magazine

Kansikuva

Our readers are women interested in active people, various phenomena, lifestyle, and wellbeing. They are enthusiastic shoppers and eager to try out new things. They live their lives with a twinkle in the eye and want something to spice up their everyday lives each week.

Me Naiset, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary, will undergo a reform in early 2012. The essence of the sassy and cheerful sixty-year-old adored by its readers will remain, but the visual look of the magazine will become more spectacular than before – it will be the magazine of the future. Celebrities will be more present not only through sharing their everyday lives but also through revealing the inspiration behind their fashion, beauty, food, and other lifestyle areas.

Supplements can be added to magazines either as separate supplements or glue-stitched supplements, and as stapled supplements in stapled magazines and ground off in the spine in glue-bound magazines.

Before printing the supplement, the trimming/grinding allowances must be verified from the printing house. Ask for case-specific instructions from the printing house foreman. As a general instruction, the stapled supplements have an allowance of 4 mm at the top edge. If the supplement size corresponds to the size of the magazine, 4 mm is also left at the outer edge. If the supplement contains 8 pages or more, the top edge cannot be cut open. The suitability of the supplement and product samples for mechanical production must always be checked from the printing house.

It is recommended to test the supplements in advance. Testing should be carried out particularly for thick supplements, folded supplements, supplements with size limitations, and always for product and material samples. All samples must be approved in advance.

Provide clear packaging instructions (to your subcontractor) regarding the supplements so that they are delivered to the printing house in appropriate condition. Ensure also that they are packaged consistently and are thus suitable for mechanical processing. The shipment must be marked clearly with the required information of the shipment, the name of the supplement, numbers, etc. Excess supplements will be discarded after binding, unless otherwise agreed. The recipient will take care of the charges of the returned supplements.

Delivering the supplements

A supplement dummy must be delivered to the Media Service three (3) weeks prior to sending the supplements to the printer for technical/production check up. If the supplement dummy has not been delivered on time for checking and results in technical/production problems, the costs caused by such problems will be charged from the customer or the supplement can be left out from the magazine.

Delivery address for the supplement dummy:
Sanoma Magazines Finland Oy / Media Service
Name of magazine
P.O. BOX 100
00040 Sanoma Magazines

Please deliver the supplements in time, a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the magazine’s publication date.

Transportation costs

The advertiser is responsible for the transportation costs of the supplements. If Sanoma Magazines Finland has to acknowledge receipt of the shipment, Sanoma Magazines Finland will charge the advertiser for the related costs.

iPad

Me Naiset tablet magazine

Me Naiset magazine's touchscreen computer version is a facsimile of the printed magazine.

Adverts in the print magazine will be published in the touchscreen computer version as well. As to inserts and folding adverts, we need in addition PDF material.

In a touchscreen computer magazine also special elements are available

For an offer, please contact our media services.

Video

The recommended maximum length for video is 15 seconds. If the video is longer than 15 seconds, it will be loaded from a separate server. In this case, the video is only loaded when the iPad is online, i.e., connected to the network.

Sound

There is no restriction for sound length.

Slideshow

A slideshow or an image gallery may contain a maximum of 10 slides or images. Anything exceeding this must be separately agreed upon.

Hotspot

A hotspot is a clickable element, such as a changing image, pop-up or a window. An ad may contain a maximum of five hotspots. A larger number needs to be agreed upon separately.

Link

Links open on top of the ad (for instance, an online store or a test drive opportunity). The link works when the user is online, i.e., connected to the network.

Instructions for materials

We need the advertisement material in an InDesign package format. Box size: 768x1024 px for portrait and 1024x768 px for landscape.

Portrait and landscape layout

• A portrait layout is made on the iPad Portrait.indd layout template and landscape layout on the iPad landscape.indd layout template. Please note: The templates must not be rotated. The templates are of a different size because of iPad’s battery/wifi bar.

• In addition to traditional magazine elements, the ad can contain changing images in an image box, video files, and other functionalities.

Additional images and videos

• Videos: H.264, 480 x 272, 25 fps, 900 kbit/s with AAC sound (.m4v)

• Images and videos can be browsed in the size of the image box, or they can be opened to the full iPad screen size (1024 x 768).

• The minimum image resolution in 1/1 size is 132 dpi.

• The file format for linked images is .jpg and for videos, .m4v, .mp4, or .mov.

• Link a still image to the image box to be displayed in the box before the video starts. If you want, for instance, that the first frame of the video should be displayed before playing starts, include this in the additional information for the material.

• Additional images for portrait layout: image name_p1.1, p1.2, etc. (for instance, flower_p1.1, flower_p1.2)

• Additional images for landscape layout: flower_v1.1, flower_v1.2.

Scrollable windows

• A page view can contain scrollable areas. If you want an area to be scrollable, create the visual element across the page template regardless of the page size.

Audio and video elements

• Videos and audio files can be played automatically when the reader opens the page.

Hotspot elements

• Hotspot is a floating window that opens by clicking a heading, an image, or another layout element. The size of a hotspot is not restricted, as long as it is not larger than the box. A hotspot window can contain text and images.

• Create the hotspot element on a separate layer in InDesign and indicate its size with frames. The hotspot elements must be located at a minimum distance of 15.5 mm from the bottom edge of the layout template.

• Create an InDesign package from the finalised material and include the additional material in the same folder.

Some inspiration for the design work can be found here: http://www.woodwing.com/en/digital-magazine/ipad-gallery

Delivery and inspection of the material

iPad ads shall be sent to the following address: ftp.astehelsinki.fi

For uploading the material to the ftp server, user credentials are required. There are separate credentials for each magazine brand, which will be sent to the customer after booking confirmation.

Please send an e-mail notification of the delivery of the material to the following address: ipad.ilmoitukset(a)astehelsinki.fi. A screenshot of the material can be provided, or, if separately agreed upon, the final implementation can be viewed.
